The elevation
The Asak Building is a multi-storey block in Sharjah with an unusually regular front: a row of full-height piers, a bay of windows between each pair, and a heavy cornice across the top. It is a symmetrical, almost classical composition, and that regularity — which AL SHOLA ALMODEA designed, supplied and installed the lighting around — decided the approach.
A building like this can be floodlit from the ground in an afternoon. That would have flattened it. Lighting a repeated element one unit at a time keeps the repetition legible, and the repetition is the only thing that makes a grid interesting after dark.
Fixing
Lighting individual elements instead of washing a whole elevation multiplies the installation. A flood scheme is a handful of positions at ground level. This is a fitting per pier per floor, each needing its own fixing, its own cable route, and its own alignment with the ones above and below it.
Alignment is the part that shows. A run of fittings up a pier reads as a vertical line from the street, and the eye finds a fitting sitting ten millimetres off that line immediately. Setting out is taken from a single vertical datum per pier rather than floor by floor, because floor-to-floor heights on a finished building are rarely as consistent as the drawings claim.
Access on a block this height is usually a cradle, or a scissor lift at the lower levels, and the sequence runs top-down so that completed levels are not worked over. Cable is dropped in one pass and terminated as the crew descends.
The cornice run is a different problem. It is one continuous line across the full width of the building, at its highest point. That makes it the most exposed element in the scheme and the least reachable once the access equipment has gone. It argues for a higher ingress rating than the fittings below it, and for gasket and gland detail that will still be sound in five years.
By daylight
By day the building shows almost nothing. The pier fittings sit in the reveal between pier and window bay, shadowed for most of the day, and the cornice run is tucked behind the projecting edge.
That is the real test of a facade scheme in a country with this much sun. A building is seen unlit for twelve hours a day, and a fitting that reads as clutter in daylight is a fitting in the wrong place.
